Shangri la Duathlon 2018 registration is OPEN
The 2nd edition of the Shangri la Duathlon Challenge in Zhongdian, Diqing, Yunnan Province, has opened for registration today. Individual and relay team participants can sign up conveniently for the race on 20 May 2018 via active.com. Early bird rates apply till 31 March.
The Shangri la race is the highest duathlon in the world with as the event venue is located 3200m above sea level. Nevertheless, the inaugural event in 2017 witnessed an incredible 100% finisher rate. Both individual and team competitions were hotly contested and we are confident it was the beginning of a long new tradition of duathlon in Yunnan and in China.
Most of the 2017 concept remains. That means the race starts at the sports stadium in Zhongdian with a 7 km long run, including a short hill, and is followed by a scenic 45 km cycling ride around the Napa lake. What may be different in 2018 is the second running leg. While still to be confirmed, the plan is to have a different course that runs from the stadium into the Old Town of Zhongdian for a warm and exciting race finish. The distance of the second running leg could therefore increase to but not more than 10 km. This course change is currently still provisional as it depends on the completion of road construction and repair works in the Old Town.
Duathlon is an increasingly popular sporting discipline for endurance athletes who like to do something different. The combination of running-cycling-running attracts people from all levels of society, and the team relay in particular can act as the perfect exercise for companies on team-building.
